I think I see your problem. You should try setting the trap with the door open and see if you have better success.
I wait until the cat has been feeding for at least three days, put a leg in the trap and remove remaining carcass. But as you are about to see, I'm still learning as well! Stupid cats!

Pre baiting is to determine if a cat is in the area , not to fatten em up so they don't fit through the door I would remove the bait as soon as I knew a cat had fed on it. Good luck
