quality time with a 12 yr old

quality time, oh yes.
What a fantastic day I spent with my daughter. We didn't have any luck getting in a hunters ed course so wasn't able to hunt the early season. She did the online portion and she handles a rifle very well as we've been out target practicing for most of her life. Her older brother got his deer during the early season so she was chomping at the bit to go hunting.."
daddy when can we go hunting?
"...
I opted to do the one time deferral for the late season, sent Olympia $20 and their deferral form and 2 weeks later I was ready to go hunting with her. She was so excited
We put on some boot miles today.
made a couple of nice stands and tried a little rattling.
We seen some does that came in to check out what was going on with the rattling, none would grow horns for us
We went home and had some lunch, rested up a bit and headed back out in the evening.
We sat in a hay field and waited...and waited..and waited some more..
finally two does came in but they were spooked, the wind was swirling so bad I thought we were going to be arctic vortex'd.
The does ran away, it wasn't looking good.
Finally a buck shows, she was ready to shoot it right away..."
wait it's coming on in...wait, do you remember where to hit it?
"
"
ya daddy, I'm aimed in I know where to hit it
"
the buck quarters to us, the position is perfect.
"
click the safety off
" *click*
"
ok sweetie; breathe.. if you're still aimed in..breathe sweetie.....and not wiggling too..breathe........bad put your finger on the trigger, just start slowly squeezing it while staying aimed in, squeeze a little bit more..
."
*blam!*
buck runs about 50 yards and piles up, a very nice shot just above the heart that took out the aortas and shredded that area of the lungs, bullet shattered the opposite shoulder.

high fives and hugs, it's what it's all about

Congrats to you both! This was my daughters first year hunting and filled her tag also. It's such a great feeling seeing the smile on their face when they take that shot.

That is what it is all about, some good times spent together, a solid understanding of the why and how, followed by a loud bang, hugs and high fives
. What is not to love about that! Congrat to Daughter and Dad. Great looknig buck too.
My daughter shot her fisrt this season as well, must be a season for the ladies.

Priceless! Nothing better than spending time in the woods with the kids. Congrats to your daughter on a beautiful buck.
My 12yr old also shot his first buck this year. I wouldn't trade being a part of that for shooting my own record book buck, ever.

Awesome job dad! Did the deferral for my (10yr old)boys last year also. They had no problems with hunter safety this year. Everything we practiced last year really clicked when they took the class.

How do you measure trying, you do, or you don’t.

Great job...
I get buck fever far worse when hunting with kids than when i am hunting...
