point and shoot cameras?

I'm in the market. What should I look for in a point and shoot without breaking the bank? My one big criteria is that it's at least "water resistant."  I've looked in person and online at a couple of retailers and the stats on most new cameras are better than what I'm replacing. The camera I'm replacing was rated water resistant but after many years of the elements, it's given up. Quality ain't cheap but at the same time I don't want to spend a fortune.

Id forget about the waterproof line of cameras...get a solid camera then purchase a small waterproof case to keep it in

We've had two of the Fuji cameras an didn't like either one for a number of reasons

if your looking for water resistant its not going to be cheap for a quality cam. Buy a good cam and case like mentioned. I have never ruined a cam in over 25 years of packing one in my pack

I use a Canon PowerShot SX700 HS 16.1MP HD 1080p Digital Camera, I set it to shoot .raw and use Lightroom later.
I keep this in my truck or pack when out hunting/fishing/hiking.

  Make sure you like the view finder/screen.
Either get two batteries and charger  or buy a camera that uses common batteries.
I have found some of them are really to small for my fingers, it needs to be easy to use.

Canon Powershot D30, Nikon Coolpix AW120 and Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX30 are all waterproof and buyable for $300.00

I have been shopping for a new camera too!

I have gone through several Panasonic Lumix PaS cameras and love them.  I currently have the LUMIX DMC-ZS19.  It has a 20x optical zoom with a 4x digital zoom.

I love these for their great optical zooms, however, every one we have had, three or four through the years, has eventually died when the lens moving mechanism goes out.

My latest camera to replace these has a lot less of a zoom, but is waterproof to 50' and takes awesome photos and video.  It is the Olympus Stylus Tough series.

How about a couple of ziploc baggies and a neoprene case? That's what I'd do rather than a waterproof case.

I used zip locks and they protect the camera, until you take it out to use.

I use zip locks for my iPhone as well.

You can get a decent point and shoot for around $100.

I have the Fujifilm XP and really like it. Had it for 3 years (longest run ever with a camera) and have used it underwater, and in harsh wind/freezing spray conditions. Takes great photos and video, the only complaint is the video doesn't zoom very far but that's why I have a video camera.

I have to the same camera. It's great. I use it all the time.
