tree stand not my favorite place to sit
« on: November 10, 2014, 11:11:49 AM »
I have been bow hunting for the last few years now and its been all on the ground. I have a tree stand that i have sat in just a handful of times. I dont like sitting in it. It could be my fear heights or lack of control since im confined to that spot.  Funny thing is its not that far off the ground. Im uncomfortable in it. Has anyone else had this problem? I would really like to get over this thinking it might up my chances for success this late season.

My dad refuses to sit in a treestand. He is not afraid of heights or anything but just doesn't want to do it. I think its more so that he can't just take a quick stretch break like he can in his ground blind. He also doesn't do well just sitting so tree stands are not for him. It takes some time to get used to it but there is nothing better then having an animal walk near your stand without a clue that you are there.

It's all about the right tree stand.  It has to be comfortable if you want to sit in it all day.  Not sure what kind you have, but a lot of guys that don't like them have really uncomfortable models.

I love sitting in a stand (as long as the wind ain't blowing) you can't beat the view. I am not a fan of heights either and it took some getting used to but now love it.

being strapped in with excellent after market fall restraint can help a ton with the anxiety of sitting in a tree.

spend a few bucks and get top of the line fall restraint system, I think you'll feel better about being in the tree.

Good point, I did feel better after I got my HSS.

Yes! Definitely use a safety harness, and the after market ones are much more comfy than the ones that come with the stands. I generally like stands with somewhat of a large platform, it feels good to be able to move around a little bit when pulling an all-dayer.

Also, you would not believe the difference a foot rest makes while in a treestand. Trust me on this one. You can also buy after market seat cushions that strap down to the treestand's seat. There are some good ones out there. I've also heard of some guys taking the cushions off of the patio furniture and using them since they don't soak up water. Hope some of these tips help you out.
