I have a basement like that - that is why I will not kill a deer under 180".    No room in the basement, plenty of room on the wall!

So back to the topic, does it take a long time to draw Colorado and is there very much public land to hunt?

There are a lot of good units that you can draw with one or two points.  There is also a bunch of public land.  CO is the best state for mule deer right now.  Almost every unit produces 180"+ bucks.   If you are a serious mule deer hunter, you should hunt CO every year.  I hunted public land on a landowner tag and will do the same until I have enough points to draw a 4th season tag.  I will kill a 190"+ typical within the next two years.  There is a reason we ran into Dennis Winch, Nate Jacobson, and Mike Brownlee on our hunt.  Have you seen the new issues of Hunting Illustrated or Muley Crazy?  If yes, then you know who I am talking about.  Get 'er done Phool!

No, you don't loose points.  You can also draw decent units on second and third choices without loosing points.  The cost is $324 for out-of-state and then whatever you pay for the landowner voucher.  This gives you the "right" to buy a license and also the "right" to hunt that landowner's land.  They cannot keep you off and cannot charge you an additional trespass fee.  Most of the tags are sold for about the same price for season/unit and most are handled between the Huntin Fool and Alan Pennington.   There are some awesome units/seasons drawn with 4 points.   If you buy a landowner tag, make sure to request a map showing the landowner's property.  This is often overlooked by the buyer and never mentioned by the broker.  I saw some big deer on small pieces of property!

Those are some nice bucks. I really want to hunt Colorado. With 5 deer and 5 elk points I'm getting closer to something good. A friend was telling me he hunts it and I could draw a good tag now, maybe not 4th season. If they don't draw they get the second chance tags and don't lose their points. They also buy over the counter bull elk tags and hunt both at the same time. I don't know if any of that is accurate, JJ does that sound right    I'll have to do some research and rally some troops to head there. Sounds like a blast!

You can draw a decent tag with minimal points (compared to what you see at home).  Hit me up when it gets closer to app time for a little info.
