Child in Need
« on: October 09, 2014, 12:06:55 PM »
So I usually don't like when people ask for "handouts", but this is kind of urgent involving a child so I'm trying to help out.

Long story short, my step-sister and her husband got temporary custody of a beautiful little girl when her mom (step-sister's cousin) went to jail in Nevada. She opened her home, her heart, her money to a little girl she knew nothing about and flew her up here and raised her for almost a year but had to return her when the mom got out of jail.

Now, 4 years later, that same mom is in prison for same reasons, and my sister just found out a week ago and is fighting like hell to get full custody of this girl. She's had two little ones of her own since then. She's been granted temporary custody and Darci is flying back up here tomorrow. The girl is in severe need of counseling, I am not at liberty to say all the horrible things that have happened to her in those 4 years but she's in need of all new clothes, therapy, doctors visits, attorney fees for the custody battle she's taking on. Just anything helps her at this point as it's sprung up so fast.

Also any clothing/age appropriate toy donations. She's 9 now and in girls size 16. I guess she loves Monster High toys.

Thank you all who have been donating and who have contacted me! Last update I got was that they're enrolling Darci in school and have been getting her new school clothes and supplies that she needs. They're trying to get her bedroom setup and all as well.

I know what she is going through.  We have parental custody of our niece through marriage as she was being abused and they were cooking meth around her.  Both parents just got out of jail, but I heard the mom just had a warrant served on Friday.  Just a matter of time before the dad goes back.  We have had to fund this all out of pocket.  Working with the state is a joke.  They keep placement open and continue to offer free drug & alcohol, anger management and other classes to the parent for free.  The parents can't seem to find the time or want to go through the classes.  The dead beat parents should have been taken out back after abusing this little girl.  Unfortunately the state will keep pouring money into them, to see if they can become a functioning part of society.  The dad has been arrested 6-7 times and the mom has to be on 5-6 times as well.  They are only in there 20's.

Best of luck to your step sister in getting her help and out of the hands of the state ran system.

Geeze, yea sounds you know exactly what they're going through. It's just sickening. So were you guys able to get permanent custody?
The fact that the parents are in a different state is providing a different set of hurdles as well.
