Its by far better than a rifle.  There is so much to it that any one thing can mess you up and when they all come together it is awesome.  Start by shooting a grouse or rabbit and ask yourself if it wasn't better than shooting it with a shotgun.  You will be hooked.

I would have to respectfully disagree that it is the same rush as using a rifle at 50 yards.  I have killed a couple of bears at 15 yards with a rifle and 5 with my bow at the same distance and it can't even compare.  Same with whitetails, when you can clearly see their eyelashes it is one heck of a high.  I like hunting with both, but nothing compares to being in 20 yards or less with animals that have no clue your there and you have to be able to draw and concentrate on a spot.  Not even close in my not so humble opinion.

Hi All,

I'm relatively new to the site - this is the first time I've posted something.  I saw the post about an adrenaline rush when hunting with archery equipment and wanted to reply.

It's unbelievable!  I took up archery hunting a couple of years ago after many years of rifle hunting with pretty good success.  I wanted a "different" challenge (I'm not saying that rifle hunting doesn't have it's own challenges.)

Anyway, after blowing about a millions stalks on deer/elk I finally managed to shoot a small 4 point and I can say that I was FAR more excited about that than any of the larger deer that I've shot with a rifle - at least for a long time.  I felt like a kid again.  Maybe it's the difficulty of pulling it off, the many times of getting really close to animals, either with the intent to shoot or not.  Not sure, anyway a huge rush.

Try it, you'll have fun.
