where would you set?
« on: November 14, 2014, 06:41:08 PM »
hey guys, part of the area I intend to trap this year is being logged. They are almost done logging, they've been at it for about 3 months now. Besides logging, they have done some thinning of the fir trees as well. There is only one dirt logging road that makes a big loop. It is on a ridgeline that drops down and borders a swamp. Lots of tracks, loggers said they've seen several bobcat tracks. I'm going to hit the swamp side of the clear cut. question is, where throughout the logging area and tree thinning area would you look to set?

get away from the road to try and stay away from any dogs and such but would set on the back side of the swamp, should find a trail that skirts the swamp, set just off of it under any protection you can get. use gusto or some other long distance call if you are not too close to dogs again. Bobcat often cruise near swamps, and beaver dams hoping for a meal of fresh beaver of muskrat, ducks are good too for them. Some feathers off a grouse or duck is a great draw. Don't recommend cds or pie plates etc, they work but attract too many humans. set for other things if they are there. that way you can get more than one species for the same amount of gas.

I'd look for areas holding grouse and rabbits. I like willows. If I can't find that I look for pinch points all the animals have to pass.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.
