disabled and razor clams?
« on: November 15, 2014, 06:52:50 AM »
My father who's disabled wants to go digging but can't get out on the sand, if he is at the beach can someone else dig him a limit? I would think not but can't find anything in the regs.
Thanks kram

i think you have to get some sort of designated harvester card.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

If he has a disabled fishing license he can sit in the car and give his companion card to someone to go and dig. Wife and I both are disabled as well as my dad never had a problem.

He doesn't need a special license if he can at least get out on the beach and carry his own clams you Can dig for him.

You cannot dig for him without the special license. Know that one for a fact. You may want to check out the laws a little. Even young kids must be able to participate in the digging if you want them to get a limit. There is only one way he can dig for him. And that is to have his companion card and there is only one way to get one

I live at Ocean Shores and I was told by a Warden that as long as the other person holds there own clams that you are allowed to help dig for them. My dad is a disabled Vet and I help him dig all the time.

I don't care where you live. Also my dad my wife and my son are disabled vets I'm the only one to go through the military in one peice   Now get the fishing rules and look at page 129. Tell the the warden BS. And stop trying to get people tickets.

I am a disabled vet. With my license i get a designated harvester card. It states right on the designated harvester card the person has to be participating in the activity.

Comments on the vets was in responce to you. You were the one that felt the need to go down that path, I can only assume because you somehow felt it would add more weight, it didn't.  Did you ever think you misunderstood him.  For the record the LAW from the fishing rule book is below, follow it or not I couldn't care less.

The person with a disability for whom razor clams are being dug must be in line of
sight of the designated harvester or within ¼ mile of the digging site. Both the digger
and the person with a disability must be licensed. The person with a disability must
have a designated harvester companion card. The designated harvester must have
the designated harvester companion card in their possession while assisting the
person with a disability.
