Steyr ProHunter Mountain.
« on: November 16, 2014, 08:21:15 AM »
Good morning all.
Do any of you have experience with Steyr rifles? I was looking on one of them yesterday at Cabelas. Stainless steel 20" barrel, synthetic stock, solid build rifle easy to shouldered and one of the thinks I love in it bolt little oversize and not wobble like in rest of the rifles.
Thank you.

I used one chambered in .300 Win Mag with a synthetic stock for several years. Functioned well and the barrel was accurate and cleaned up quick.

I use one in 308.  Great shooter.  I think it is a little heavy to be called a mountain rifle and spare magazines are expensive at $50 ea, but those are my only complaints about it.
It is accurate, w/detachable magazine, adjustable trigger, the safety is easy to reach and use, stock is adjustable to your length. And like you pointed out, no wobble in the bolt.
I have owned mine since 2000 and have never had a problem with it, or the magazines.

I shoot a Steyr Prohunter in .300 Win Mag.  I have not held the mountain rifle version, but I think the only difference in the mountain version is the short barrel.  Like tbotts says, it seems like it would be too heavy to call a mountain rifle.

I love the 3 position tang safety and the magazine is very long so I have no trouble loading cartridges to a long length to touch the lands.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.
