If I was in the market for a pump I'd go with this:

I have a nova and I wouldn't trade it for anything but a super nova. Ive put in numerous rounds through it with only one jam. Ive gotten it muddy and grimy and all I have to do is wipe it off and I have no worry that it will fire again. Ive had no problem with loading it with any combo of 3 and 1/2, 3, or 2 and 3/4 shells.

Remington 887 = poor quality (fit & finish) – sticky action -  known jammer

Remington 870 = the older ones are good guns, the newer ones have the same issues as the 887 – big time jammer with the 3.5” chamber

Nova = rattle trap – kicks like a mule, but at least they are reliable.

Get a Winchester or a Browning.

I was raised with on a Wingmaster, when I bought a gun for ducks and geese I bought a Nova, I liked it for waterfowl but I still prefer my old 2 3/4 only wingmaster for upland. My roommate purchased a new 887 this year and while it does function it feels clunky and I keep hurting my finger with the slide while unlocking it. I prefer the position of the slide release on the nova and 870 (forward of the trigger guard protruding towards the muzzle) the 887 you have to push up towards the magazine tube to unluck the slide and its a pain in comparison. So long story short 870 or Nova.

My Nova rattled like CP said, a little mouse skin padding inside the foreend quieted it down quite a bit.

I do like my old 870 wingmaster, but it isn't made for three inch shells.

Just a note to the OP, if you have not used a 3 1/2 inch pump gun, try it out, it is a really long stroke IMO.  If I was going to buy a new shotgun, I would consider the semi's in the 3 1/2" or go with just a three incher.
If you go with a semi I would not overlook a winchester SXIII or the Browning. My uncle bought one first now almost everyone I hunt with has a Winchester SXIII and love them. I got lucky and picked up mine from a friend brand new in the box for 500, It is the Realtree camo (I think it was sold as a turkey gun) had fiber optic rifle sights clamped on the vent rib. comes factory with sling swivel studs and is a great all around shotgun.

What normal person wants to pay $1000+ for a shotgun lol, plus the OP was looking at a gun in the 887/nova pricerange. Big difference.

870 is my vote. I've shot hundreds of thousands of rounds out of 870's, and all sorts of benelli, beretta, mossberg etc. I own a 870 with pushing 1 million rounds out of it and sure it rattles and its not pretty anymore but it goes bang and swings nice. All guns have a few bad ones in the bunch but I've had less problems with the 870 then anything I've got my hands on. If you had to go semi benelli or beretta but a pump remember 870 anyday.
As to 31/2" chamber why? Added weight an more recoil with less rounds for no real gain. You loose shot density going to 3 1/2" or 3" and really don't gain that many pellets or any velocity. If you need a 3 1/2" gun get a 10ga because the bore can use them and shot density is better but in a 12ga there is no point going bigger then 3".

Have had a few of the 870's and nova's, no 887 though. But both are solid guns, and a breeze to clean. I seemed to get a better fit with the super nova, so it was my go to gun until I went auto. Everyone loves to argue about shotguns, like Chevy's and Fords. Get whatever one fits you best! And pay the extra for 3.5, always a nice option for turkeys and geese.

I've hunted my nova next to an 870, moss500, and franchi that all quit while my nova kept going. Sand ice and salt it doesn't matter, the nova keeps kicking.

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.
