Kuiu Yukon gaiter review
« on: November 04, 2014, 07:49:41 PM »
Got these gaiters so I could have a camo pair and in hopes that they were quieter then my OR Crocs. These are the only two pairs of gaiters I've owned so ill try and compare the two.

Design.
They are well designed, the button on the bottom isn't as secure as the Velcro tab on the crocs but quiter if you have to adjust while hunting. Where the strap goes around the bottom is more secure with a little belt loop type thing to put the extra strap if that makes any sense.

Queitness
They are less noisy then the crocs, I did have a sqeak problem on the bottom by the strap but got some dirt on it and it went away.

Waterproofness
I've tested this heavily, I hunted on the pensiula in clear cuts for 5 days when it was rainy and Dewey and I've hunted the release sites a lot so far this season. Paired with my salamon  gtx boots my socks have stayed dry in the kuiu. In one case I walked back to the truck on the flooded out road at cherry valley and the water keep going over the top of my boot but the water stayed out.

Durability.
Don't know yet. And I haven't tested them in snow but hopefully will during some Chukar hunts

Overall they have been great. Sized alittle better then the crocs and keep out the water as designed. Well update I'm a few months with more miles on them.

Thanks for the review. I have the OR gaitors, like them, they run big, used their gear when I was a mountaineer. The Kuiu gear seems top notch. I just ordered a wool t shirt from them.

I have probably a hundred miles on mine, work great.  Little noisier than I would like - if you are going through low brush in the dry it would be an issue for bow hunters.

Dont leave camp without em anymore.  Really help keep boots dryer and saves the $$ pants.

Bmcox86, I think you will be happy with the long term durability. I've been running a first generation set for several years now with zero issues. Still look and function like new. Actually better than new as it took about a month to get the squeeeeak completely out of the strap.
