300WSM Build idea
« on: November 17, 2014, 08:28:33 AM »
well, them 230 Berger Hybrid Targets still have my wheels turning.

Unfortualtely a 300RUM, and a 300WM are just too long for amything othert than a single feed.

now I am looking at a 300WSM, throated for the berger.

3.220 COAL, it will easily fit in a Long action with some room to spare, no need for any long mag boxes etc...etc...

Saw some real nice rigs in Idaho that gave me some ideas for a tacticool chassis also.

Now just need to see DBM will hold a 0.550 diameter cartrige.

Accurate makes bottom metal for the wsm family. I think your will have a hard time finding a set that will let you run a coal that long in the 300wsm mags.

We were mag feeding 230 OTM's in 2010's and a Desert Tactical bullpup.

With fantastic results I might add. :chuckle:

I have done almost the same thing you are talking about.

I bought a tikka t3 300 wsm. The nice thing about the tikkas is they are all long action. The short actions just have a longer bolt stop on them. So you can get a kit from brownells that has a replacement long action bolt stop. Then you just replace the short action stop and you now have a long action 300 wsm.

Next I tore the magazine apart and rebuilt it to allow for a longer coal with the 190 and 210 bergers.

Just a option for you. I will have to measure the mag but I still have plenty of room with the 190's I am running right now.

I just measured my modified mag. I used a piece of aluminum channel for the back of the mag to create a new rear wall. My max coal is 3.130" with the channel stock in the back. I think if you used just a piece of flat aluminum you would be able to get to your desired length.

Once again just a idea.

It has been doing great. I have only put about 40 rounds since I converted it. The mag follower is a little short for the new length but it just slides forward on the last shell tell the nose touches the front of the mag and then it stops.

I am not a member of that board, so I can't read the thread.

Called Berger and they are working up some possible load data for my possible COAL.

Looked at a lefty Tikka in 300 WSM, really liking the idea of a left handed bolt for a rifle like this.

This looks like it has potential also, would use a Magpul PRS instead of a flimsy telestock.

The .300 Win Mag with a 230 OTM is a stellar performer.
