Is it a standard practice with guided goose hunts to let the birds land in the decoys and then shot them as they lift or does it depend on the guide?

Depends on the guide. Most do it because most clients can't shoot. Honkers getting up are easier targets.

Best way to get the group to limit out and get them off the field quickly to rest it.  Gives the guide more time to scout as well.  Less birds are educated as well.  Just a few flocks get pounded vs. a hole bunch of flocks with only 1-2 birds getting taken.  Than you risk those flocks not coming back.

Id book with big guns. Bill saunders, John Plugoff, mike, etc flat out kill birds.

I've always gone to Aaron Echternkamp for the past 7 years or so.  Many of the other suggestions which will be offered on this thread will be good too but Aaron always seems to have things dialed.

Agreed - I'd only hunt with Aaron Echternkamp if I wanted a great hunt.  If you're paying that kind of money anyway - may as well hunt with the best.

:yeah: I've see it way too many times, 12 - 15 shots and maybe one wounded bird.

Best 'GO' I have seen with the land method is 28. It's very effective.

I've been hunting with Aaron where clouds of ducks and hundreds of geese have landed more than once. The video below was years ago with a crappy camera but sometimes it's just about being in the right spot - again and again and again. Echternkamp.

One thing to ask the guide about are they getting a higher percentage of Honkers or lessers? IME Moses Lake area has more big Honkers and the Tri Cities more lessers.
