Any coyote or cats around bremerton area?? New to the state.
« on: November 21, 2008, 05:00:52 PM »
Hello everyone! I recently moved here from ohio, and would love to get into some yotes or cats. I am completely lost when it comes to the west coast. I called a few yotes back in ohio, but never had a chance to shoot (either someone esle was shooting, or just bad luck). I have heard that even if I were to find a spot over here I would probably only be able to use shotgun. Nobody seems to know for sure though. I just bought a Savage 12 Varmint 22-250 with a bull barrel, bipod, and threw a nikon 3-9x40 scope on it. I would love to put it to some good use if possible. I am willing to travel a litte if need be. Not too far though (the wife isnt a big fan)  :bash: Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, are there any taxidermist who buy the furs? Thanks!

Welcome to the site :hello:

Sorry don't know anything about the wetside but im sure someone on here does. If you can make a trip to the eastside there are many dogs to be killed ;)

I dont understand why would you have too use a shot gun when ya have such a sweet varmit rifle like the 22-250? as far as I know there is only a few units that you must use shot gun  one is stella unit but most you can use a high power rifle. its not like back east where its bow muzzel loader or shot gun

The Coyle Unit is firearm restricted. Probably some local areas down your way too, but I don't know them specifically.

Lots of Coyotes on the wet side, but they're almost impossible to hunt most of the time. Right down in the neighborhoods for the most part. As you go South from Silver there will be a few in the foothills, and a fewer in the mountains, but very sparce. If you can find lowland property to hunt that's your best bet. Hard to come by.

Most guys from the West who want to kill Coyotes take a drive over the pass to the East side. It's well worth it compared to spinning your wheels and getting flustered (or yelled/shot at) around here.

Quite a few bobcats, just have to figure them out and get them located.

Hey. . .I just joined the forum because I just started hunting Coyotes out here in Western Washington also. . .I also am originally from the Midwest. . .Southern Illinois. . .and hunting them here (at least at my current spot) is a lot different than at home (or at least it has been since I started. . .3 days ago) or where I lived previously (Southern California). . .

Anyway. . .I'm located in Silverdale and would be stoked to find someone else interested in 'yote hunting local to my area. . .right now I'm hunting on property owned by a friend who is (was. . .since I haven't seen or heard a coyote since I've been there for the last 3 days straight. . .from 3 AM-till about 7 AM) having a problem with coyotes killing here ducks, geese, and chicken. . .I found LOTS of tracks and I found where they were coming and going out of the woods. . .they are used to people and haven't let that bother them in the past. . .so I don't think it's me. . .I think it's the sudden change in weather that has thrown their pattern off. . .right now since I'm hunting in a restricted firearm area I've got the shotgun (3 1/2" Remington 870 synthetic using #4 Buck). . .but I'm saving up for a Howa Axiom in .243 right now as well!!! My Ruger 10/22 will have to hold me over for a rifle in the meantime. . .

Long story short. . .hit me up if you're interested in figuriing out more spots to hunt in the area. . .two heads should be better than one. . .

I live in the Bremerton/Seabeck area (lived/hunted in area since '89) and know of some nearby spots for yotes. It's MUCH different than midwest hunting (originally from S.D.) but I'm sure it can be done. I've never gone out with the specific goal of taking coyotes, so a yote hunt sounds like fun to me.

Maybe some of you Silverdale guys could PM me and we can put something together.

Lots of dogs in the Winston.  We saw about 15 during elk season.  Did not shoot cause we did not want to screw up our hunts.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.
