My first Mature Muley

This buck looks very reminiscent of the first mature muley I killed.   Not exactly but close enough to spark memory.  Some day in the dead of winter when things are slow around here I will bore those willing to read the story.  In the meantime, enjoy this buck.  I sure love his mountain look.

I love the dark chocolate color of the horns on these big bucks, Anyone know why they have that dark brown color?

Usually its spruce or that high mountain scrub. The pitch and coloration.   This year there is more "burn" influence.

It was pretty rare to see "dark" racks around Winthrop, except for the migratory bucks.
I have been seeing that allot more in the last couple years.

Tripod helped with that.  Lots of fir saplings that are perfect size for rubbing that are charred

Whatever my buck from this year was rubbing on, it turned the water red when boiling the skull.  Any ideas?  I am guessing it was the bark at the bases... never had the water turn red before.

Great shots. That neck is massive. From the title of the thread, I thought we were going to see one of those yellowed shots of 5 hunters standing by 30 mule deer back in the 20s!  :chuckle:

Beautiful Pics Bone...I love the Dark horns. Reminds me of the Muley I missed in Wyoming back in 08... Dark horns and a bit wider about 27" wide nice and symmetrical just like this one... :drool:
