Spring turkey hunting
« on: December 09, 2014, 02:28:52 PM »
I am thinking about hunting turkey in the spring and have a few questions for those that turkey hunt. I see Colville as the best area to hunt birds during the  spring season. My questions is where at in Colville would one go, just outside of town or are there DNR gates near Colville for the public to hunt on? What about areas on the west side of the state for turkey hunting, are there places to hunt turkey at? What about release sights on the west side? And my last question is about hunting  out of state. I have family in Eugene Oregon and was wondering what an out of stat tag would cost if I was to turkey hunt outta state.

I am not looking for anyone's honey hole. I am just looking for some general information and places to hunt birds.

Thanks for the help it is much appreciated.

Seach the turkey hunting threads on this site.  It will probably keep you reading for weeks.  Lots of good information from a bunch of folks.

A blind man can find turkeys in the NE corner of the state. There is plenty of state land and the Little Pend O' Wildlife Area. Go to www.mapmet.com and find a spot. Or contact the DNR Office in Colville for a map.  Get off the main roads and ask some land owners for private land access.  Read past threads on this site.

Go to wdfw hunt under regulations and pull up the spring turkey regs and look at the distribution map which will give an idea, then find the creek drainages and burn some shoe leather.  This is a good time of the year to do that ....

Visit the Oregon Department orf Game website for out of state turkey hunting info.  I think the best Oregon hunting is down towards Roseburg and south.

Attend a turkey hunting seminar.

Good luck ....

Attend a turkey hunting seminar.

turkeydancer, are you going to be putting on your seminar at Cabelas again this year? I'd love to bring my father to it this year.

My aircraft carrier project is huge and starts after the first of the year. Looks like I'll be working 10 - 12 hrs/day, 6 -7 days/wk for about 1-1/2 yrs.   Basically I've already told Tulalip store to find someone else this next year.   If I do, it would be at the Olympia store but I believe they have been using an outfitter the last couple of years .... or at the Bass Pro store in Tacoma ... and then maybe only one on a  Sunday.  May even effect my spring turkey hunting.  Sorry I can't give you any better info ...   :dunno:
