blued or stainless steel?
« on: November 23, 2014, 04:53:09 PM »
Looking to buy a 30.06, and I am not decided on finish or brand. I heard about Weatherby or Tikka being like the best you can buy under $700. What do you think/recommend?

I don't think whatever you point it at is going to care if it's blued or stainless.

If you hunt in a lot of rain, the stainless is nice. But it's not necessary. My main hunting rifle which I've used every year since 1997 is a blued Browning A bolt, and I've never had a problem.

Just what you like the look of - like what flavor of camo...... add matte or glossy to the list of choices.....  Stainless wont wear off like blued will, but blued has that classic look.

As far as gun goes I like my Weatherby V2 better than Tikka. I like SS but blued is as good for the most part. If you don't like bright SS you can always darken it and not worry about it like a blued finish.

I like blued rifles myself. But in wet conditions stainless steel is fantastic. If you live on the west side of the state get stainless steel, on the east go blued. Honestly either one will do just fine. As for $700 rifle I would go with a Remington 700 ADL or SPS. Others Ruger American, Savage Axis XP, Remington 783. You should be able to get a great rifle and scope for $700.00, don't be afraid of the local pawn shops as you could get some great deals. GOOD LUCK.

I own both and like both....all personal preference really.  I could not discount the Savage in your price range.  The accu trigger is awesome and they are one of the best shooting rifles I have ever owned.   :twocents:

I kinda like the in between look--patina.  You wait long enough and the bluing should turn into it.  Or you can get the chemicals and treat the stainless to get there.
