Coon Hunting San Juan Islands
« on: November 24, 2014, 11:38:59 AM »
Any body ever ran their hounds out on the San Juan islands. Here reports of them all the time tearing chickens and *censored* up. Their isn't a tree on that place that doesn't have one is what I've heard.

Racoons on the islands seem to go thought boom and bust, and there is a very strange mix of old school locals and those who hate hunting. COULD be a great place IF you knew the right people...

I would also add that an Island like Orcas MAY be a better fit because there is a big bunch of huntable state land, and more Redneck locals that may think its cool to be your "guide" for the night... A little local intel as to where to try and NOT to go is a good thing... That and having a local in the truck would likely smooth issues over...

Ive never been hound hunting but know just enough  about the islands to know they are tricky.  :twocents:

You might try posting a wanted add on Lopezrocks.org.  There are a lot of folks with chickens that have no love for the coons.

I would be interested in doing this some time this winter as the pelts get good.  I can also take you to some public land that I know on Lopez.  PM me for more info or to talk.

Hounds would be trespassing like hell. Public land to small. Trapping is a lot better. I have shot a couple deer hunting but haven't used my dog. I see a lot trolling the shore fishing at low tide.

I'm from Ellensburg and yeah not to many of us coon houndsman in this state but there is enough I guess. How do you do on the coons over there? We recently just got our dogs out of Tennessee. Haven't got out enough yet but think there is enough around here to do well. Congrats on the recent state football championship also

Thanks. Its was a great game our team played very well. And the population is low where I hunt. But its still fun just to get the hounds out.
