looking to next year
« on: December 19, 2008, 09:20:46 PM »
Once again I struck out elk hunting.  Looking for a few ideas from anyone willing to offer.  The way it looks my dad and I may have one or two more years to hunt in this state and then we are moving to Montana.  He will be retiring there and my wife's twin lives there so we are going to try to make the move as well.   Heres the deal.  My dad is 61 and has had a couple of back surgeries.  He has hunted elk for what seems like forever and has never got one.  He has passed up the shot for me and been with other guys when they got em but it hasnt worked out for him.  We would both love to get a Rosie before we move, not a trophy but something worth mounting.  Anyone have any ideas for a good guide that doesn't require a monster hike?  I am more than willing and happy to pack out the elk if he gets one but his back just won't let him hike too far anymore.  I always seem to push him a little over his limits and feel bad for it but we both want to get our first elk together.  I had a shot at one last year but someone shot it after I did.  We are willing to hunt rifle or archery.  Neither one of us have the extra money for a guide but are willing to make some sacrifices over the next year to make it happen.  I am also looking for suggestions for which units to put in for with the special draw that may offer a decent success rate without a monster hike.  I think we have about 9 points now.  Thanks for any and all ideas

Don't know anything about west side areas. But it sounds like you guys need to find some privite land to hunt on. Knock on some doors.  :twocents:

Sorry don't know what else to tell ya. but I'm sure someone does.
