Coyote Carcass
« on: November 27, 2014, 04:23:40 PM »
This is a coyote that my buddy shot. He drilled it and I saw it drop.  We walked over to find it and had no luck retrieving it. Seven days later we went to the same canyon and saw crows and magpies hovering. We immediately knew what they had found. It's amazing how picked over the carcass is in just one week. My friend felt redemption knowing he didn't miss, but worse of all is that we were unable to count it in the Coyote Madness 7.

:yeah:

Sometimes they don't get eaten at all. Well, at least not until the maggots get on them.

Around here the coyotes eat the carcasses.  I always skin in the field and often check on them the next time I'm out.  Tracks all around it , bones chewed , scat near by or on it.    lost a few like the OP, that is how I find them.

I haven't seen it either. Looks to be a target rich environment.
Pavement, crowds and inaccurate rifles...
Thanks anyway.

That is pretty impressive what other animals can do in a week to a dead 1.

I've seen then eaten to nothing but spine with nubs for ribs over night.  But that's a skinned out dog. Probably a little tougher skin on
