To swap the motors for each use, right?  I'd think I'd get annoyed with the mud motor on the boat while fishing.

If i may chime in a long tail will get you where you need to go but at a slow pace they are not built for speed and will wear you out with no trim, i run a 23 hp Surface Drive on a 14 foot with power trim, you can haul a load and a buddy and i run 28 mph by myself, 20 mph with a buddy and dog, i litterally run a inch or so of water over sand, rocks mudflats have hit stumps, you name it on a plane and it defintly lives up to its name sufrace drive, if  your looking for long tail mayhem mudmotor is affordable and have some reliable do it yourself kits, if you want surface drive and not the price of a mudbuddy or gator tail look at copperhead mudmotors,  if you want to check out my motor NW-GSP ,  i know your local and would be happy to take your for a spin or let you take it for a run before you break the bank. just message me and let me know

I ran a 16/48 Modified V Grumman with a 25hp Go Devil longtail and got into the places I normally went with a canoe because of the depth and the weeds.
I ran this same boat in the Columbia when the winds were down.

It was slow.... but you got there. Ding your new prop on a rock (250$ back then) then run said prop in the mud and sand and it would grind away til performance was gone.

Would I run a longtail or prop in the rocks again? NO.
Do I want to get an 18' sled hung up in the Winchester flats again ? NO

IF I were to go boat shopping today. I would get the Excel F4 18/54 with the 45hp surface drive and be happy to stay away from the rocky edges.
Spokane will rebuild the props for less than new.

Polarcraft built that tunnel hull... I thought that might be a good comp til I ran a mudmotor. :twocents:
Pavement, crowds and inaccurate rifles...
Thanks anyway.
