Poor Pup
«
on:
December 02, 2014, 04:21:26 PM »
I've been throwing up pictures of my Golden Bell, now six months old. She had a freak accident playing/rough housing in the snow with her mom and broke her right hind humerus. So sad she was in such pain. I'm talking with the ortho surgeon and going with a pinning/screw surgery as opposed to an FHO. She was set to start upland bird training in 48 hours.
Just when I thought I'd have some cool stories and pictures for H-W.

That is too bad, it is amazing wha they do while playing, I know I have had a few moments where I thought one of our pups was surely hurt. So far, so good, maybe just lucky
. You will still have pictures and stories to post on here and we are looking forward to many tales of you and your soon to be bionic pup.

Sorry to hear of Bell's accident, that is a crazy place for the bone to break.
It is amazing what the surgeons can do. Our dog, Loki, seperated the growth plate off the top of her femur when she was about 9 months old. A few screws and some time to heal and she did well, but she was mostly grown. Her back leg curved a little but did not seem to be an issue.
We hope your Bell gets through her surgeries well and has a speedy and successful recovery.

Man thats a bummer, that break looks pretty brutal. Dogs are alot tougher than humans and hope she recovers fast and healthy.

It is a highly unusual break. I'm really sad. It is amazing what vets can do. I'm impatiently waiting to hear how the surgery went.

The surgery went as well as I could hope for. Part of recovery is 7 weeks of crating to prevent her from rebreaking the bone. That's going to be really hard for her.

I see a lap dog, at least temporarily.
Hope her recovery goes smoothly. The hardest part for us was just knowing the pain and discomfort ours was in during the healing and not being able to explain to the dog that it will get better.
