Any wagers on when the first person will be publicly capped for breaking the law?

I doubt anyone will get busted that wouldn't have been busted before, selling to a felon where the gun was used in a felony (as an example).

This was never about getting criminals. All you need is an angry ex-wife with a cell phone to take pictures and movies with or a pissed fired employee who witnessed a "transfer" in the shop after today. This law will be used and abused in order to disqualify as many people from their 2A rights as possible. The people who wrote this bill did so intentionally in a vague way to snare as many people as possible. The fewer the number of people with gun rights, the closer they are to their goal of an end to personal gun ownership.

:) :) :) I think it will be the first "gun crime" that happens, with a gun, they can prove was transferred after 12/4/14, without the new process. :dunno:

I don't think it will happen immediately. There's too much attention to it. They will wait until the scrutiny dies down, and slowly ramp up the enforcement. "Boil the frog".

Some people just have their tinfoil hat on a little tight. :chuckle:

I doubt there is a line of cops waiting to be the first to make this type of arrest.

I bet there are plenty of cops who don't think average citizens should be able to possess firearms, especially handguns.

Especially the cops in the bigger cities, and I have no doubt they would love nothing more than to be the first to bust someone for selling a gun without going through the background check process.

I know a lot of cops, and not one has even mentioned anything that would indicate they are excited about busting someone for transferring a gun to someone else without a background check.

It's not the cops. It's the people reporting the "crime". We know that anti gunners have already called the police on people who open carry to report false crimes. Once the police have a complaint, they have no choice but to investigate.

It wont come from a cop it will come from a prosecuter, that gets a "gun crime" to court, who asks where did the gun come from?
If they are lucky they will trace original sale, keep tracking until they find a scape goat. I am sure it will be several years before anything happens.

How is 594 enforced on tribal land? I just saw this on an Armslist ad:

We will do this legally, we must meet on an idian reservation to avoid legal issues since i594 passed. Cabelas or Tulalip Casino parking lots only. FTF only. No shipping. No Canadians. Washington residence ONLY.

As I understand it, reservations are sovereign Native territory but are subject to some Federal laws, as well as Indian laws, not state law. Ceded lands are State land and therefor subject to state law. However, a WA resident buying a firearm outside the state, like on a reservation, must run it through an FFL to be within the law to bring it back into the state. If the person selling it to him is a WA resident, he is guilty of a gross misdemeanor if he doesn't go through the FFL to perform a background to transfer the weapon, regardless of where the transfer takes place.

Isn't it--well except for the alcohol thing.  And they also are the only group that actually owns property--not renting from a government with 'property taxes'.  I've been trying to convince some guys that they should open gun stores, host gun shows, have a full auto rental shooting range and a brothel.

People need to remember that non-tribal members doing an illegal act of state law on tribal land are subject to state law.

If I, a non-tribal member, go to the Muckleshoot rez and sell my gun to Billy Bob the non-tribal member without a background check, then I am just as guilty as if I did it in downtown Seattle.

It's kind of simple. Non-tribal member on rez is subject to state law, and in some cases federal law.

First time is a gross misdemeanor. If you have a prior conviction for the offense, then a Class C Felony.

I wonder how CNN will cover the story if a "white Hispanic" 594s a firearm to a "white African" who is then violently taken down by police and then dies. Will the protests be against the unconstitutional law, or against the cops??  :dunno:

No, I'm sure it'll be reported fairly and hopefully, the cop's name and address, kids' schools, and wife's place of work will be reported.

Hope this link works:

Sounds like some vendors are canceling the table.

So, If I'm at a gunshow, am I technically able to handle the weapon prior to passing the background check and purchasing it?

I guess they'll need to do background checks on everyone as soon as they walk in the door. Otherwise, what's the point in going to a gun show if you aren't allowed to pick up and handle different firearms?

I'm not sure that would satisfy i-594, which requires a separate background check for each and every transfer.

I guess they'll need to do background checks on everyone as soon as they walk in the door. Otherwise, what's the point in going to a gun show if you aren't allowed to pick up and handle different firearms?
I'm not sure that would satisfy i-594, which requires a separate background check for each and every transfer.

Yes, you are right. Every time you want to look at a gun, it will require another background check.  :bash:

I think I broke the law on Saturday.  I held my hunting partner's rifle a couple of different times while he was putting on a raincoat or whatever.  :o
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

After seeing the memo from DOR about how they will collect tax on sales and transfers, I figure now they will probably be searching out all the most innocuous offenses to 594...probably create a huge special task force.  Got to get all those tax dollars.

So, If I'm at a gunshow, am I technically able to handle the weapon prior to passing the background check and purchasing it?

I feel like not...

If the transferor/sellor is an FFL, yes. Otherwise, you technically need another exemption.
