What color is the game dept helicopter in the Methow
« on: December 03, 2014, 07:52:22 PM »
I was hunting Gold Creek today. I was putting a stalk on a pretty decent 4 pt when all of a sudden a blue and white helicopter flew over right at the top of the trees then it just kept going in a up hill then down hill. Did it all the way up Gold Creek. Needless to say they spooked the buck and had deer running all over. I was a little pissed and I hope they saw my middle finger ;)

I don't know if it was the game dept or some jerk showing deer to his friends. If it was the game dept I'll give them a piece of my mind for chasing deer during hunting season

Also crossed 5 Wolf tracks up Oxide canyon
The mountains are calling and I must go

Black of course. Aren't all government helicopters black???  :chuckle:

In all honesty WDFW owns a whopping ZERO helicopters!

When WDFW does use a helicopter it's through a contracted bird and pilot.

Sure doesn't make sense. They flew up and down Gold Creek for about 45 minutes just over the tree tops then took off towards Pateros. Deer were scattering every where.

Bummer about that chopper.  I've been hunting that same area in years past.  The wolf sign is getting heavier by the year.  The deer sign seems to be getting lighter.   >:(

MedStar flies a white EC-135 with a blue (with yellow accent) wavy diagonal striping, blue tail, blue under carriage.
Methow helicopter charters has routinely had and may still have a blue and white bird they contract with.
CBP also fly a white A-Star with a heavy diagonal blue stripe, but it wasn't likely theirs.
There are tons of birds out there. Do you have a description? Some are pretty recognizable, Robinson, Huey, Bell Ranger. If you ID the make we might be able to figure it out.

Clindsayrun,

It didn't have any yellow, mostly white with a blue stripe. I don't know what kind of chopper it was.

Naches,

I should have taken a pic or written down the numbers

It really looked like they were pushing Deer on purpose I just don't know why

Not sure why you are hunting Bucks  here in the Methow right now as there are no general seasons or special permits valid here now. Raffle tag ?:dunno: As for the helicopter, I know Fitkin and Heinlin used a blue and white one to do deer counts last year , so if I was to guess that is what they were probably doing.

Curious what permit or season you were hunting? :yeah:   I thought they were all closed except the raffle tag.  If you were just taking pics, would love to see what you came up with

Well Gentlemen, you see, I'm a POACHER

I have the Late Muzzy Alta Tag

The game dept in all there wisdom. After realizing they opened all those doe tags through Nov 30 gave tag holders 3 choices. 1)get your points back. 2)hunt the regular dates of Nov25th-30th wearing hunter orange 3)hunt Nov 29th-Dec 14th. I chose #3

My first reaction was game dept counting deer. THEY EVEN FORGOT HUNTING WAS STILL OPEN. Which means  Lipkin is as brite as everyone says he is :)

Spin05,
I have seen a lot of Whitetails higher than I would have expected. 2 pretty good bucks I could have whacked, 1 being a 24" 8 pt that almost made me shorten my Muledeer hunt

Bone,
I'll shoot you a PM

Good to know about your season choice.   That would be a good hunt.

Is Lipkin any relation to Fitkin? Good luck on your hunt there are some dandies up there if you know where to go.
