Looks like a good start.  What seasoning did you use?

OH YEAH....be very careful!!!!  Making your own jerky is very addicting, don't share to much or you will find friends you never knew you had.  They will constantly be bugging you to make more.   :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Looks yummy! I use to do it in the oven, but I ended up buying a Bradley Smoker. They work well when they work, but they have a lot of issues.

I use a prepackaged jerky mix.  Check out the link below....they have the best seasonings in my opinion.  My top two are smokey bbq and Sweat and spicy.  I really do not like the sweet teriyaki....it is very bland to me.  The secret to great jerky when using these spices is heavy on the seasoning.  If the package says it will make 16 lbs....then I only add 10-12 lbs.   It is really yummy.  I will often add extra pepper flakes to the seasoning to spice it up even more....kind of depends on your tolerance to heat.

Is that ground & striped ? I used to use a dehydrator & then went to a smoker and use Hi-Mountain cracked pepper & garlic seasonings. Love that stuff and so does everyone else. Had a bud that did his in the oven, worked well and the entire house smelled of it for days. Good stuff, but his wife wasn't to fond of the house smelling. Sacrifices have to be made for good jerky he told me. Enjoy !!

The nice thing about a jerky gun, is will spread the meat into even strips in terms of thickness. It makes it much easier to smoke. If the meat varies in thickness it can be under or over smoked.

It turned out great, used 5 pounds of deer and it made about 3lbs of jerky I think. It was made with a gun, I bought the  lem jerky gun on sale from outdoor emporium for like 16 bucks. Would like to get a smoker or dehydrator but don't have the room now.used the original spice kit that came with the kit. Tastes pretty good. Want to try the peppered spice kit next. The gun was super easy to use.
