I'm looking into getting a job boat to hunt the marshes and rivers in the west side. Would a outboard with a jet pump work better then a muddmotor?.

Pumps dont like the weeds.
Props dont like the rocks.

I was running a mudmotor in the potholes way before they became popular, and outboard pumps before that.
Pavement, crowds and inaccurate rifles...
Thanks anyway.

So that thing just attaches to a lawnmower type engine with the proper shaft?  Interesting.

No matter which way you go it's going to be a compromise. Jets are inefficient but the peace of mind is worth it for me. I can count at least twice this season I would've been in trouble had I been running a prop. I don't see many people running mud motors out here, I've seen one to be exact and if I see him at the ramp I'll ask him about it.

That plus a cheap Craigslist Honda motor or one of the Harbor Freight Chinese Honda knock offs, and one of those smaller beavertail boats would be a treat.

that's what I'm thinking, I'm thinking about building a boat similar to a beavertail.

With motors you get what you pay for. Cheap is cheap. If you want to go mud motor stick with a well known brand. Time  and battle tested. Sure you may pay more maybe a lot more, but reliability and confidence I won't have a .02 cent part break sure helps me when I paid for my motor.

:yeah: A lawn mower breaking down isn't quite the day-ruiner that your boat's only motor breaking down would be.  You can usually find a good used Briggs Vanguard v-twin for a very fair price if you're willing to look for a bit.

Yep, even going with a Honda or a Briggs, you are still a lot cheaper than an outboard.

And I believe you have a really good handle on what an outboard costs!  :chuckle:

I wouldn't mind having a 16' jonboat and have a outboard for it for fishing and a muddmotor for duck hunting.
