Teaching a 5 year old how to hunt

I've been taking my 5 year old out hunting with me for the past few weeks. We've yet to see a deer together, but we sure do have a great time. Thank goodness for suckers and juice boxes.

I think it's great you're taking your kid out. As a dad of a 7 year old girl, I'm right there with you. Keep at it, an hour at a time.

suckers is a good idea, hadn't thought of that one.
juice boxes work well. Hand warmers are awesome too
biggest thing is to not keep them out there against their will. If they're done they're done!
Good gear and a few tricks like suckers and hand warmers can extend the outing.

give him a predator call and wait till you are almost done hunting and give him the last 30 minutes and let him make a bunch of noise. he will have more fun than anything. especially if you talk it up before you go.

i was implying that the father would eat the sucker and drink the juice box, leaving nothing for the child.

Nice job. get'em early. My daughter has been out there with me since before 5 yrs. Now at 13 she still would rather go hunt than do teenager stuff.

Great looking boy - what a smile!
Nice job taking him out with you. I have a boy that just turned 6 in September - he's funny as hell to watch sneaking through the woods, all stooped over and looking stealthy in the way only a 6 year-old can. I can't get him to stop talking though (endless babble), so real hunting is not a real possibility until he learns to zip the lips. He's still trying to draw the bow I bought him for his birthday. 15 lb. draw weight seems pretty easy until you put in in the hands of a child.
