camo make-up. who wears it?

I take a lighter to wine corks. Then use the charred cork to darken up my face. It's cheap, light and easy to have on hand, and I can't imagine it hurts my chances so I use it. Clean up is super easy.

Used that for years!  Was great as long as you made sure there weren't any lingering coals and hot spots. :chuckle:

I assume D-Rock gets the same two questions I do, "Why do you say elk are easy to kill with a bow?"  and, "What is your secret to successful elk hunting?"  These two questions are usually asked by the same person who just got done telling me face camo makes no difference.  Coincidence :dunno:

Is that what you find too, D-Rock?

OK, just so I got my shopping list straight:

I need:
Makeup to put on
Baby oil to get said makeup off
Makeup wipes to get the baby oil off
Maxi-pads for the first aid kit for when I cut myself opening the wipes
Super-hydrating Lotion for the dry skin caused by the makeup and soaps
Panti-hose for ultralight long johns because it's gonna be cold out
Bright nail polish for the front sight in case I actually get a shot

Can you imagine the looks I'd get if I stopped at Fred Meyer in Issaquah on the way home from work to get this stuff before a hunting trip? Sheesh.  "Oh, hang on sir, before you ring that up, I was supposed to get some cucumbers and pepperoni sticks for camp, too.  I'll be right back."  I'd be on youtube in a matter of seconds from somebody's phone.
Years ago I was in a store looking for elk mouth calls, they didn't have any. A blond came up and asked if I needed anything? I said thanks you don't have what I need. She said what is it, maybe she could order it. I said it's a elk mouth call, she had no clue and asked what type of call and I said it's a diaphragm. She turned red and looked shocked, my buddy said not that kind of diaphragm, this one you put in your mouth. She got real flustered and thought we were messing with her.  :chuckle:

Sometimes in warmer weather but usually when I am bowhunting it is around or below freezing so I wear a camo 3 holed ski mask.

Aint necessary shot this buck at 15 feet.  Not the first time as about as close. elk and deer both  - spot em - stalk em - shoot em.
And the "experts" say that the worst color you can wear for hunting is anything blue.   :chuckle:

I was told this once and think it is 100% true.  10% of elk hunters kill 90% of the elk.  Ive been lucky enough to get myself into that 10%.

I've sure done a lot better with face camo and gloves.  If it just gives me 1/2 to 2 seconds, it could make the difference when I'm sneaking around.

Really good point there   If I had to chose one or the other I'd take the gloves!  A lot more movement of your hands when trying to get a shot off compared to the face.

:yeah: I always carry extra gloves to change with the weather and sometimes a face mask to cover the grey beard.

I believe face paint is the key to hunting. The more face paint the better. Elk like to look good in pictures

Nice buck and story.  It can sure help sometimes and spot and stalk isn't always the name of the game.

Anything that is as affordable as a facepaint compact, which will increase your odds by a little bit shouldn't be discounted.  I've had a buck at 10' while wearing jeans and a red flannel but I've also had them spot me 100 yards away while I had the wind and cover to my advantage and I was in full camouflage.  Nothing is for certain it's all about increasing the odds.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.
