What's your most accurate setup?  I'm finally getting around to this caliber.

I,ve used IMR-4064 a lot with 170 grain bullets. 33 grains gives 2100 or so with excellent accuracy. Another load that has worked well for me is 30 grains of H-4895. I will use remmy or ww brass along with either cci200 primers or fed. 210 primers. With hornady 160 FTX bullets  I use 4064 and  H4895 as well. The 160FTX worked fine with those powders. Accuracy using H4895 with the 160 FTX was very good indeed.    The leverevolution powder may be better for the 30:30 however I have not tested that powder enough to make the claim.   :twocents:

It's good to hear that you like the FTX because that was a bullet I wanted to try. I also read that the H4895  works well with these bullets. Have you tried any round nose?  I am thinking it would be nice to have a cheaper steel/plinker round to have on hand.

Mine shot the lever evolution ammo the best. When we reloaded, we used IMR 4350 and a 150gr Hornaday round nose bullet. As a kid, I'd use the reload as my first shot, and back it up with some Remington 150 gr ammo. The reloads shot great, and were deadly. We did not crimp the reloads so I only put one in the gun at a time. Never had to back up the first shot with the store bought ammo.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

Yes sir. The 170 core lokt shoots great with IMR-4064 or H4895. So does the 170 sierra flat nose. Factory 170 core lokts run 2120 on the chrony. Both H4895 and IMR-4064 will do that with no problem. Both powders will also work well with the FTX if you cannot find lever powder.
