Moose shedding
« on: December 13, 2014, 06:51:08 PM »
I have been watching both of these bull.  On Dec 8 they both had antlers.  Today, they are gone.  I looked for about an hour today, but could not find anything.  I'll be back at it tomorrow.

Well, I thought I had a good chance due do the small area the two moose were hanging out in.  I put in 4 days (3-4 hours each day) but did not find a thing.  Than we got a fair amount of snow.(about 15")  Also I had my kids and grandkids here for 17 days over Christmas.  Snowmobiled up thru the area several times and those two bulls are still in the same area.  We saw them 4 times out of 7 rides.  I'll hit it hard come spring.  Thanks for checking in!!

I got real lucky finding moose sheds during 2013 and 2014 turkey seasons.  The set I found on different days about 1 mile a part on heavily timbered ridge.  How I found either of them is just dumb luck.  I'm not sure if they're from the same bull or not.  The single shed I found last year on the same ridge.  Keep hoping to draw my moose tag!

You think that first bull is a set?  Did you see the bull before he shed?  Just curious?

I don't think the set is from the same bull.  The bases are close to same diameter but you can see how the points are different lengths and the paddles are different sizes.  One of my buddies who knows more about moose than I said the shed on the left is from an older bull.  It is definitely the nicer of the three sheds I have, all of which look great next to our fireplace.  I was thinking of somehow rigging them all together to make a coffee table with a piece of glass for a top.  Maybe someday.

Good job Nature Boy!  I would say the "set" are from two different bulls.  They have a few different features.  Also, I have been lucky enough to have found three different sets and I have always found them within a few feet of each other.   My son-law found a set last year just feet apart in the middle of a atv trail!!  Some people have all the luck.  Stick with your area as it is an area where bulls are in when they shed. Good  luck into the future.

Awesome finds   I would be willing to bet that the latest shed you found was from one of the bulls in the previous years "set". :twocents:
