Suppressor Tax stamp wait time

Got the call today to come pick up one of my suppressors.  Naturally, it couldn't be the one I wanted approved first but I'm not complaining, I'll take what I can get.  Wait time was right at 4 months, which is pretty damn fast.  Hopefully I'll get the call for the others soon too.

The one I got approved for today is a Thunderbeast 22S-1 rimfire suppressor.  I don't exactly remember, without looking, what I paid for this one.

I bought a couple of them out of state and the transfer, wait time, to get it shipped to a local dealer was only 4 weeks.  If you're 2 months plus, that would really suck because you can't send your tax stamp form in till your local dealer gets it.  That is the downside to buying one out of state, it adds to the overall wait time.  The other 2 I'm waiting for had their tax stamp form sent in 4 weeks after the one I bought local that I just got the call on so, hopefully, I'll get another call a month from now.

Yep, I know the pain. I have had 3 for awhile now. Until the other one comes in to the local dealer I can't finish the paper work

I had to wait a year for my first 3 stamps!

Did you get in on the tail end of e-file or was yours the traditional paper file method?  When my son got his suppressor it took 1 year+ and right now I'm waiting for mine.  I'm hoping my wait time will be like yours, if so I might be getting a late but fun Christmas present in early January.

I'm sure there are more knowledgeable guys on here than me, but I believe you're looking at a $200 tax stamp plus the cost of the suppressor.  Cost depends on what it's made of and brand just like everything else, but a 30 caliber probably starts in the mid $500s and goes up from there.  Expensive and a pain to get, but very enjoyable once they finally show up.

I hope I'm giving you good info, my son knows the whole process much better than I do.  The tax stamp is $200 and each and every suppressor requires one.  The money goes to the government, so where it goes from there .............................. do we even want to know?  They do a background check on every suppressor purchase.  The tax stamp (just a piece of paper) needs to be kept with the suppressor just to prove legal compliance/ownership.  I keep a photo copy with me when I have the suppressor in use and the original stays in the gun safe.

If it was not for the huge fee each year to deal suppressors, I would be doing it. Just not worth it with a sale here and there.

One stamp for one supressor...if I got a suppressor for say my 30-06 would I be able to use it for other guns if they have threaded barrels or am I suppose to have one for each gun or can they even work for different guns? Basically what I'm asking is can I buy one suppressor for all my guns

You will get best result with matching your calibers with your suppressors. Yet you can run say a 30 cal on most rifles that are of course smaller. 7mm 270 etc. The 30 cals work ok on 22 cal center fire rifles but not nearly as good as a 22 can.

You can get quick detach suppressors or direct thread. Most get quick detach and buy mounts for each gun they want to run the suppressor on. I have 2 setup like that. That I run on about 6 different guns. Then a fancy direct thread titanium for my long range rifles. They are said to be more accurate.

This is my American predator 308. With my YHM 30 QD suppressor.

I also have a 22 cal YHM QD and 30 cal direct thread titanium YHM.

I think the best bang for the buck is a QD 30 that you can jump around on different rifles.

I'm partial to Thunderbeast Suppressors.  I don't like to use the "best" word but I will say TBAC Suppressors are among the best.  Naturally, as is often the case, top end quality usually cost more but they are comparable to the other top end suppressors.

Rimfire suppressors come in a variety of sizes, materials made with, take apart, sealed and costs.  This is just my opinion but I think the TBAC 22L-1 and the TacSol Cascade Ti are the two best rimfire suppressors for sound reduction with the TBAC 22L-1 being ever so slightly better but I'm sure many would disagree.

I would highly recommend to anyone ever considering a rimfire suppressor to not look at price alone and go for the one that cost the least.  Make sure you get one the covers all the different rimfires rounds.  Some rimfire suppressors are even rated for the FN5.7x28.  Do your research, do your research, do your research.  You'll be glad you did.

The biggest issue with using a can that was made for a .30cal but on smaller caliber rifles, is their size and weight.  Some companies do a really good job of keeping even their bigger caliber cans at a comparable size and weight to their .223 cans.  Remember, any time you add weight to the end of the barrel it can potentially change how your rifle shoots and the smaller and longer the barrel contour, the more weight will affect it.  The TBAC 30P-1 is a great universal can that is rated for anything 300 win mag and smaller.  To do all over again, I would have bought the 30P-1 instead of the 223P-2, at 17.2oz it's only 3oz more than my P-2 can and that extra volume would have made things even quieter.

Also, keep in mind these things aren't "movie quiet" but subsonic ammo and a good quality suppressor and they are still damn quiet.  Even with your regular ammo they eliminate a huge amount of the muzzle blast and can typically be shot without ear protection.  They work very well with recoil reduction, too.

Price is whatever you can negotiate it for.  Remember, if you purchase a suppressor from a dealer out of state, that dealer has to submit and receive a transfer approval from the ATF before that dealer can ship/transfer to your class III dealer and your dealer can't submit your $200 tax stamp form until he actually receives it from the out of state dealer you purchased it from.  It's not big deal but be advised it will add a few months to the already long wait time.  Oh, and you'll probably have to pay your local dealer a transfer fee also.  Before you purchase from an out of state dealer, check with whatever local dealer you plan to use because they sometimes stick it to you on that transfer fee.  I've heard as much as $75 per item.

Those little 22/45 Lights, just look naked without a can on them.  I've got the exact same one except mine wears a TBAC 22S-1 can, instead of the Sparrow.

That Ruger 22/45 is a fun plicking gun, add the suppressor and they become serious fun!  I thought my son was nuts when he was getting his rifle suppressor, he let me shoot his rifle and suddenly I had one in the works.  Then he bought the 'little can,' again  I doubted why he was doing it .................... I'm learning to listen to my son.

This is why I bought two rimfire cans, the 22S-1 and 22L-1 because I knew my daughter would always have one and I didn't want to miss out on any of the fun, too.

These things are worse than potato chips, you can't ever just have one. lol
