What piece of over the top camping gear...
« on: December 18, 2014, 01:40:51 AM »
What piece of over the top camping gear are you thinking of getting next?

I have my alaknak 12x12 with the wood stove and chimney oven, and queen sized cot bed, but I am thinking of getting an inflatable sofa for the inside...

Or maybe a zodi shower system

Or maybe a portable wood fired hot tub...

I have zero practical need for anything like listed above, and I am not going for practical. When I go camping, I like going as far out as I can possibly get, way back into the middle of nowhere, until, the jeep can't go any farther, and setting up where nobody will find me, and staying out for a week or so, hoping I dont see another person the entire time, with some added comforts not usually found in the woods, but also for having the cool fun tent when camping with friends and having my tent be the party tent... With some over the top features...

What new thing do you want to add to your gear list that is more of a novelty, but also serves a purpose?
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

I smoke two fish in the morning, I smoke two fish at night, I smoke two fish in de afternoon makes me feel alright

I am thinking a nice 2 man tent instead of camping under a tarp.

I was thinking about getting a 5 ounce gas powered lantern. They use the little stove fuel cans. Pretty cool. It'd be neat to have more light at night then just a headlamp.

I like the little battery operated flashlight/pop up lanters surprising the amount of light they give off.

I got one of those too. Haven't really tried it out yet other than during a power outage a couple weeks ago.

I use the smallest of the Black Diamond line. It's great for hanging inside the tent, much better than me or my partner being blinded as you are fumbling around for your socks in the dark.

There are some nice compact panels out there now.  You can get a 1 W panel that doesn't weight much for around $20.  I'm thinking about getting one to make a system to charge phone/gps while out.  Or maybe leave it in the vehicle with a trickle charge to the battery while going out on multiple overnights.

I think you are onto something with the shower... I have been in  a couple camps that had dedicated bath tents... and I'll tell ya what... that was nice.

For me though... hmmm... the main thing I want to get is a GOOD wood stove with a water jacket AND a Mr. Buddy Big Buddy for when I dont feel like getting out of bed to stoke the fire...
