Sorry to hear of your family's loss. Nobody knows when they are going to go. I lost my Dad 23 years ago and I miss him as much now as I did then.
You will reflect back on the many good things your Dad passed on to you. It sounds like your Dad arranged to share his time and interests with his family. It is now your turn to do the same. All those family get togethers and trips are now your model to follow. When you make decisions in the future, you will think about what your Dad might have done and factor that in. I hope that you have some fun and insightful stories to share with his grandchildren because it is through you that they will get to know him.
Sudden losses are far harder to take than when you can see it coming. I would suggest putting together a picture board for his funeral. It will help all there to celebrate the passage of a good man.
Again, my condolences to your family.

So sorry for your loss. I lost both my parents back in '91 and '92 and I still think about them especially during hunting seasons. The next few days and weeks are going to be tough but you'll make it. My condolences to you and your family. Take care.

Having lost my father in the recent past I know how you feel. It's not easy, it's certainly not fair, but its the cards we have been dealt. The best thing you can do is carry on, and know that while he is no longer physically with with you, he is in your heart and mind. It ate me up for the longest time, I was 21, he was 39 when he passed. It's been just shy of three years to the day when he passed. It gets easier, you accept it, and time marches on. The biggest thing to come from of it, is that I can only hope that I have as big an impact on my soon to be daughters life, as my dad did on mine. There are some great people here, many who have gone through the same. While I myself am guilty of the opposite, talk to somebody, anybody, because it will help you more than you can know.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

I would imagine nothing any of us say or do can help you. But sorry to hear this. I dread ever getting that call. Hang in there.

My dad was 46 years old. Leaving behind me (27) my brother (25) and sister (23) the three of us are his blood. Then there's 2 more younger sisters and 1 more younger brother. He was like a dad to all 3 of them. Just doesn't feel right, he was trying to do the right thing and it just backed fired on him. He's suppose to go old and after having a long life. My dad loved hunting, he was very successful when it came to elk hunting. I feel like he knew where the elk were every season. Man he was lucky, in his words " it's all skill son". Thank you to everyone with the kind words. It helps a lot!!
