Warden's 1st Grouse !
« on: December 22, 2014, 05:19:51 PM »
I have not had a chance to get the dog out at all this fall . So today I told myself I need to do everything in my power to get my dog on a bird .. I went to a pretty good size Alder patch where I have jumped grouse all bow season . We did not hunt long before I see him get all birdy ..Tail is doing circles and he is hunting hard to find it . Once he headed into a clump of ferns all hell broke loose .. I have not hunted grouse over a dog since I had my shorthair ..A lot different than shooting them from the road  :chuckle: Anyway the bird flushes and I pull up and Pooow ..Birds folds like a bag of rocks ..Warden takes after it and now I am wondering what he is doing since this is the 1st bird shot over him and now he is off to retrieve it ..Not more than a minute later here he comes with it in his mouth  :yike:  He brings it to me and drops it but then crabs it again ..Nothing major for his 1st flush and retrieve ..I need to get out a lot more once I get him trained up ..I guess he is trained up since this was his 1st day ever out hunting and got his 1st bird  :dunno: :chuckle:

I was thinking something similar but if it is a hunting dog it should be out front...this way BOWHUNTER45 can keep an eye on a Warden, or maybe if the Warden is in front of him he won't have to worry about them being behind him too :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
