Lower parts kit? Good quality low cost?

I'm just looking for a kit that will work decently but not cost more than the lower.

I'm hoping to get an Anderson lower, would it make sense to get their lower parts kit?

90% percent of most mil-spec lower parts kits are exactly the same with a different name and price. Lower parts kits are lower parts kits with the acception of the fire control group.

:yeah: Buy a lower kit without a fire control group and buy a better trigger. Alg makes the Qulaity mil spec trigger and the ACT trigger both much better then the factory trigger found in most kits. I am using a lot of the ACT triggers in my builds and customer builds.

If you were thinking about a geissele trigger, this is a great buy. You're basically getting the lpk for free. I just paid 250 for this same kit from psa. http://www.slickguns.com/product/super-semi-enhanced-lower-parts-kit-featuring-geissele-ssa-e-trigger-22995-650-sh

That one's a little out of my price range.  Thanks though.  I picked up my Anderson lower today, sucks it had to be purchased as a "handgun" so now it is "registered".  Guess I'll still have to do an 80%....   ;)

I think the way to go Loki is to find some one who has "Upgraded" and has all thier extra lower parts. I know i have seen all kinds of stock accessories and such CHEEP on CL. I think that is the way to really save a few buck IMO... Plus because there are some real deals out there for new stuff there has to bee a bunch of used stuff cheep around.

I got a Rock River LPK with the two-stage trigger for $150.
I'm pretty happy with it.

Allot of guys I'm around are running one sort of Geiselle trigger or another. I've been contemplating picking up a few SSA-E's but I've used the RRA two stages for so long and they have been great triggers, I haven't felt swayed enough to change.

"I don't understand why it had to be purchased as a "Handgun"???? It's a stripped lower correct? Most FFL's mark them as "Other" when it is just a stripped lower reciever and what you choose to do with it is up to you. It wouldn't matter if it was checked off on the paperwork as "Rifle", "Handgun" or "Other. If you do the paperwork, it's still going in your name no matter what"

Where this one would have been done the same as a rifle and not added to the handgun registry...

I've gone the Joe bobs route twice now, once with the RRA NM 2stage enhanced, and a few weeks ago with the single stage kit for 61 dollars.I've got a gunsmith/machinest at work who works the triggers over.My 2 stage he gave the once over and it was 5.5 pounds stock,he stoned and polished, little file here and there and it breaks clean now with the stock springs at 3 pounds. He claims he can get the same out of a single stage battle trigger also.Check out the slack adjuster trigger screw thingy for 14 bucks.I got one of those to put in this next build.

Unless the lower was stamped pistol. It should have gone as "OTHER" being a stripped lower.

I have no experience with their triggers. The magpul kit usually runs between 60-70, most lpk are in the 50 range. So you're paying an extra 30 or so for their trigger (fire control group). I would probably look up reviews of their triggers to decide if it's worth it.

I have several Mil-Spec Anderson triggers and they aren't any worse or any better than any other mil-spec trigger I have shot. All a guy has to do is dry fire one real slow as to "Feel it out" a couple times and your good to go. I would much rather shoot a RRA two stage than a Mil-spec. The end results are the same a rifle will shoot just as small a group with a mil-spec as it will with a match trigger, it's just much easier and more comfortable with the match trigger.

At Skagit Arms, they said it had to be done as a handgun since it could be used to build one.  I just assumed that the info would then be sent to our local sheriff like my wife's info was when she picked up her 38 special.

Blacktail Sniper, I was looking at the Anderson standard LPK and found one on ebay for $49 including shipping. I haven't looked much at the stock prices to see if buying that with the LPK is a good deal.

However, a member has offered me a screaming deal on an LPK, buttstock, so I think I am set... at least until I do my 80% build someday.

Grey area here. If you plan on ever building into a pistol, state it as such. If only and always a rifle, no worry. You can, as some would say, register it as a handgun, you can always build it into either a handgun or a rifle. Once it is built into a rifle from "registering" It as a rifle, it can not be" legally" built into a handgun..hence, the grey area...who will ever know????

I love the R River 2 stage, but prefer the Gisselle. Don't let anyone tell you a good trigger doesn't make a difference in accuracy.  Most factory triggers leave a lot to be desired for a light, crisp break.

I was told at the local specialty store(law enforcement/competitve shooter outfit) that with the passing of 594 that it is no longer necessary to designate a stripped lower a pistol or rifle on the paperwork. This just changed last week on thursday I believe.

Thanks for all the input, what's done is done I guess as far as the lower goes.  I'm probably like most people who don't buy a huge variety of firearms so just do what the sales person says.

That's why they have the "other category for stripped receivers" That way it does not matter what you build it into. That is why most ffl's will always do them as "other" that way it can be built into what ever the client wants.

If it is done as a pistol then the registration forum is sent in and registered as a handgun. If it's done as other or rifle. Then it is just like any other long gun, 4473 is saved by the ffl and nothing is sent in like we do on handguns.

It may have been done in the "other" category, maybe they meant the ffl just couldn't be done as a "long gun".  I think I will call tomorrow to find out though.

There's no black or white, just "Right" by checking the "Other" box for a stripped lower, you can build a rifle or a pistol with it. A guy spends enough time around AR's they shoot no matter the trigger. For most  the trigger can be a upgrade later, put the cash in a GOOD barrel and build from there. The barrel is everything on a AR, the rest is however it turns out. Mil-Spec is mil-spec and billet is cool.

It would not hurt. It does not matter now since the paper work is done.

Yes, that is how it is properly done. My comment is what, according to the law, could potentially get a person in trouble. Correct, that, once listed as" other" on the 4473, can be built into either a rifle, or a pistol. My point is, as a pistol, it can be converted back to a rifle, then back to a pistol. If the build starts as a rifle, it becomes illegal to be converted to a pistol. Its called constructive possession. This can be verified by your local ATF agent. It is an issue solely for the purchaser at that point, not the ffl holder..hence, the grey area..who will know so to speak..
