Reny Island. Not sure if the spelling is right but it's right in Hoquiam. Also a good goose spot. Need a boat to get to it. I haven't hunted it this year but it can be good when there's birds in the area.

is rennie island even legal?  hoquiam is a "no shooting"(and that means firearms, archery, pellet guns, hell even slingshots) area within city limits, and looking at the map of the city, it seems like it fell under city limits for some odd reason.  i'd heard people talk about shotgun hunting for deer there.

i'm really gonna kick myself for never hunting it in all the years i lived there if it was indeed legal...

aside from that, there's some areas around ocean shores, and of course, the mouth of the humptulips.

Check out the FFH areas on the Brady loop road.  If it is a week day you could be in for some good shooting.  Yup, it is legal to hunt reny island.  I have not hunted it but, know several who do.  It is kind of tricky.  People tend to go zipper lip when I start picking their brains on it.

Rennie Island is illegal to hunt.  It is within the City Limits.  Prior Police Chief never enforced it.  New one does.  They have been known to meet you at the boat launch for a heart to heart.  Brady gets hit 7 days a week and anything within shooting distance gets poked at, but lots of public land.  There are also public areas just south of Elma on SR12, but again the pressure is high.

The sloughs upriver from Cosmopolis can be good during a freeze or the Potter slough south of South Bend. Upper Elk river, Cedar river wildlife area.

As a rookie, I tried the public land mentioned by dreamunelk only to find lots of blasting before legal shooting time, 10 to 15 minutes early.  Sky blasting of geese flying in the jet stream every time a flock passed by. Late arrivers piling out of their rigs to ground pound and jump shoot buffleheads in small ponds and sheet water, practically stepping on me as I was brushed up and concealed and later raining shot on me. If this is the crap I have to look forward to, I picked the wrong pastime.

You could be right but it's darn funny that my partners and I have never been questioned when we hunt it and we've spoken to other groups hunting it.
My hunting it is based on one of my partners hunting it for years.

I know the Chief personally.  He's said if they had a Dept boat, they'd be out there writing tickets.  I used to hunt it previously as well, but haven't since hearing his response.  We were always told to have at it by the Officers.  I think they mostly turn a blind eye to it.  Too many other places to hunt that I know I won't be rolling the dice as to whether I'll get a ticket or not.

I'm surprised Rayonier doesn't require an access permit for hunting that island.

This map does show the island as being within the Hoquiam city limits. So I could see why it might be illegal to discharge a firearm there.

i think that map is just what is considered hoquiam and not city limits.  i'm fairly certain that the northern boundary(at least in the area i lived in) was the SR109 spur road(lonngren pass), then along 109 north to where it starts going up the hill around grays harbor city.
