Muzzy guy buying a scope fore a rifle hunter?
« on: December 24, 2014, 11:21:17 PM »
Dads b-day is coming up. He hunts in Montana and he is in need of a new scope. Rifle is a 30/06 shooting 190gn nosler partitions. Most shots are in the 250-350 yard range. He is wanting a scope that has the yardage increments in the crosshairs. Looking at spending 250-300 for one. Whats out there if anything? As said, I am a muzzy guy so scopes are not something I have any knowledge of.

I prefer turrets over any type of reticle. Leupold has their CDS system where you can have a turret cap made with the yardage printed right on it for a given load.

Laser the distance, spin the cap, always have a center hold.

Great if you only shoot one load. I prefer their M1 with MOA markings.

If you/pops want to stick with a reticle, they have a bajillion.

Good luck and merry Christmas!

I'm on the other side of the table, a reticle does not screw up turrets do. Once sight in is checked I do not touch the knobs. At one time or another I have sent back most major brands including BR scopes that went from house to range cased. For the $$$ you wanting to spend, think I would look at the Weaver grand slam. I've gone from Leo to that scope when set side by side with not one but several Leo Burris Vortex and a couple others it out shined them. I use the 6.5x 24 for varmints out to very long range. JMO

When you start comparing scopes check out these guys. Purchased a couple scopes from them and the prices and service is great. Sounds like you already know the style you want. Good hunting!
