Pig Prices

Hello all. I have three pigs ready to sell. Does anyone know of what they are going for at the auction? None of the local market reports have hog prices. I have three York crosses, all are in the 180 lbs range. I do know going rate is $2.50 lbs hanging but do not know live weight prices. Thanks guys.

Sell by hanging weight.... And with feed prices as they are I think your price is low.  I can't finish at 2.50

Are you looking for profit or looking to sell? I raise 4 to 6 twice a year for family and friends. I take the feed bill and the price I paid for the piglets divide it by the number of pigs and that is the price I charge. Last two times it has been right about $2.50#. I see them from $3.00 - $5.00 a pound on Craigslist all the time.

2.50-3.00 is pretty common around here.

I just sold one cut and wrapped for $3.75 a lb Free range and as organic as I could make em.

I sell all I can grow for 3.50 per pound hanging fat hogs don't go to the auctions like they used to at all if they are in good condition I would ask 1.25 per pound live

The board price today was about 82 cents, that is a carcass weight basis so live price would be about 65 cents/#, 280# pig about $182 in the real world

I know a lot of hog farmers been doing this for a long time and I don't know one that can sell a pig for that price please let me know we're I can buy a 270 lb live hog for 182 dollars that is in good condition I will buy 10 of them tomorrow

If I were you I would keep them and finish them and sell them hanging you will get more money for sure at 180 lbs you have taken them through the slow growth time with good feed you should be gaining at least a pound a day in a month or two you will have a fine market hog but this is also when they eat the most and you will want to feed them all they want

That is an amazing price, and you are not doing that on the wet side of our state. People are getting $100+ for weaner pigs and $150+ for feeders over here. I would say that you paid a very good (for you) price for them, nice job!
