What states?
« on: January 27, 2015, 09:46:57 PM »
Im looking to start applying for some out of state hunts. I know this is a broad topic, but I was just curious which states are easier to apply, which ones are easier to draw, which ones are worth the wait. Which ones are more expensive than others. Basically, school me on this topic. I have some ideas and some areas im considering but I thought id get some input from you all.

You could subscribe to the Huntin' Fool magazine for a year. though you're kind of 'late' in the game for 2015, believe it or not. They do a western states roundup in December for the upcoming year. Their January edition usually covers Wyoming and Arizona, since our deadline is February 10 and WY starts 31 Jan for elk. They've probably mailed February's edition already which will include New Mexico. Maybe someone on here has an edition from previous years and though most of the info will be out of date it will kind of give you an idea of how to play the game. i'd imagine if I lived in WA I'd probably play Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and maybe Nevada.

As it is I live in Arizona myself. So I buy here, Utah, new Mexico, Wyoming, and for some reason pass on Nevada. Not sure why though.

Wyoming is easiest in my experience, but I haven't looked into Idaho. In WY, $120 will buy you a deer, elk, and pronghorn point. So far i've chosen to pass on moose, sheep, etc.

Welcome to the rat race.
