First season I hunted Musket caps two fell/came off.  Number 11's for me.u

Did you have a musket nipple?  Did you crimp the flanges?  Mine have never fallen off but I crimp my flanges so it holds the nipe better when hunting.

Yes..   Didn't reallize you needed to crimp a musket cap?  Now I really wouldn't trust them...  :)   So I miss the first shot, moster bull headed up the ridge.  I gotta load up and run up the hill to get the next shot and I gotta worry about crimping the dang thing!    LOL   :)   I might give them a try again.  Really I might!  :)

Check with Sabotloader. He will provide information that the right #11 cap is better than a musket cap. They burn hotter and fit tighter.

I came to that conclusion about 8 years ago and went back to no 11's wont shoot muskets again

Skagit Arms had them in December.  They had plenty in stock... 1081's.  If you get some there, please pm me.  I need a few more boxes.

you can mod musket nipples to hold just as tight.  I like muskets because they are easier to handle when reloading.

You can modify them to hold tight - but are they water proof? and I certainly agree with the larger size they are easier to handle if you are loading with your fingers.  I prefer to use a capper to place and press the cap on the post - but that is just a personal preference.

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

Not waterproof 100% but I've never had trouble with them firing in the rain.

:chuckle: I don't know about that.  What I should have also said is that I have had trouble with 11's going igniting powder before.  I don't shoot/experiment anywhere near as much as you do, I shoot cheap muzzleloaders too :yike:

Im tellin ya, its not the #11 caps but the low grade black powder sub powders you guys try using. Add poor weather and it just makes it worse.

Get real Goex black powder and you'll be in heaven. If you dont want to pay the hazmat fee, then dont complain about misfires. That hazmat fee is cheap when you compare all the $$$ involved getting a hunt put together just for your rifle to go POP.

As for waterproofing #11 or musket caps, a drop of lacquer inside the cap will do the job.

Well, I am not complaining, I use musket caps and don't have misfires.  Thanks though
