BVBH Late Archery
« on: December 31, 2014, 04:01:50 PM »
Had a really fun late archery season. Was able to get out a bunch and the weather co-operated nicely on both hunts  Spot and stalk for both and under 20 yard shots, killing both cleanly and had them falling in sight. On the buck hunt I was fighting a terrible migraine ( which is very rare, I dont remember the last time I had one) and combined with the terrain and slippery snow I opted to hang him and come pack the bulk of meat the following morning.

The cow I got to enjoy one of those premium western washington days, that just seems to soak from the inside out :chuckle:. But boy it made for great stalking conditions and she never knew what hit her. Another solo pack out to the road and then got back up for the ride down to the truck

Its been a great year, combined with Idaho bulls and hunting partners' nice blacktails and oregon bulls its been a year for memories. Good luck to all in 2015!

Awesome job! Very nice pics glad your season turned out well. Looks like on of those giant Rosie cows, full grown and shaped like a block!

i see you decided to take it easy on yourself this year and kill a mule instead of torturing yourself on the Blacktail bucks like normal!

Thanks for sharing and again job well done, full freezer I'm sure

Thank you AK  :hello: Ya she was a nice mature cow, real fun hunt and man she eats good. Trust me I missed those blacktails :'(  But the hunt for that buck was one of the funnest I have done for deer in awhile, aside from a migraine it was as close to a perfect hunt as I could ask for

With vail permit putting me out of my traditional late hunt areas, I have spent the last couple years focusing on new spots and diversifying my options. 12' and 13' were good overall although I held out in 13 and ended up doing urban " rose renewal" and took a Doe on some some private land I had access on. This year was shaping up good, and I had a couple shooter bucks and a plan for them, nobody was hunting it all season, but late rifle one of the bucks got cocky and the discovery took its toll and 3 of the 4 didnt make it. Dummies  :chuckle:

How was your season?

I hunted a spot I've been wanting / thinking about hunting for a few years. One of those spots where you have a hunch and finally decide to put the work in to hang a stand and hike dark and dark to hunt it. Cam had a ton of pics on it starting 10/23 and ending mid November.

Ended up having a dandy 3 point with eyeguards that I bleated in at 25 yards for maybe 10 minutes. Small cedar limb blocking the vitals so I decided not to chance the shot although I'm sure I would have killed him. He was a big mature buck that I have quite a few pics of, fun hunt but didn't end up getting him.

It was about an hour combo ride/push/hike from the gate if I pushed it so it was tough to hunt first light. I found a much better way to get to the stand so I plan on hunting it Mornings this coming year. It's an awesome mid day spot.

I'd like to get another one of these big BT bucks on the ground with my bow then try to get a pope and young white tails and mulie in the two years after just to get all 3 deer in WA 3 years in a row.

I ended up killing a spike in the snow storm second week of late archery. It was a fun year and I learned I like to bow hunt last week of October for these blackies!

Sounds like a great season, and you have done your homework for those brute blacktails! I agree the last week of October is great for those blackies. Congrats on your buck
