What do I do with the tail, if anything?

Do this:

Then have it tanned by these guys, Specialty Leathers in Iowa, for $6.50 a side.  Then have a wallet made or better yet make it yourself.

Anyone know what this may be? Its a pretty rural area so I dont think its any type of contamination. Ive seen this spot a few times and It never looked like this "Oil slicks".. Noticed it was by a bunch of freshly chewed wood.
Could it be from a beavers scent gland or something?

Put some castor in the water and you will see the exact type of "oil slick"

I bet Rasbo can advise you how to make a beaver tail thong
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Looks like it may of been beaver. Sides bowed out and door was pushed through and invertes. Was a smaller trap like 8x10x24. I knew after i made it. It was weak and wasnt going to stand up to anything big. Gonna have to chop it down and salvage it for a smaller trap.

It's called Green Belly!  It's caused by not being skinned soon enough. I would rub some borax on it and and you might save it.
