Help quick bond glue works too fast
« on: January 06, 2015, 04:40:19 PM »
Trying to build arrows today I messed one up cutting and this other on the glue set while I was pushing in the insert. Is there anything I can do?
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

I would try putting a crappy tip in there and then smacking it with a hammer in the hopes of getting it to break loose inside.

Or you could google it and come up with acetone, sok the tip in acetone or fingernail polish remover w/acetone overnite then try to pull/twist it out.

Put a drill bit into the nock end of the arrow and swing away! That insert should fly out. Beware tho because itll come out with authority. Then clean up inside the arrow and try again.

If it is cyanoacrylate (superglue), soak it in acetone (if you live with someone who wears nail polish, nail polish remover is acetone).  Put it in a small glass, deep enough to reach the arrow shaft/cover insert when the point is down.  Cover the glass with plastic wrap so the acetone doesn't evaporate.  Poke the arrow through the plastic wrap into the acetone.  Not sure how long it will take, keep trying until you can gently grab the field point with pliers and wiggle the point out.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Been there and done that a few times myself.  The hidden inserts are the worst because you can't see how far they went in; you just rely on the tool to push them in.  I'd guess I have a 1:30 failure rate.  Generally, the drill bit swinging is a possible solution, but I rarely can get it to work and end up calling it a kids arrow.
Bring a GPS!  It's awkward to have to eat your buddies!

Make sure not to swing around a window or breakable items. It comes out alittle hot

Thanks for the help soaking it in acetone did not work, but I dropped a nail in from the nock end and all is well.
