Since WDFW won't do that, I suggest every one stay away - it will just continue to totally suck.  Just can't recommend anyone drive more than 10 mile one-way to hunt Swakane.   :twocents:

Allow me to be the first to say that I did NOT hunt the late Swakane archery season this year.  My buddies tell me that there were more trucks rollin' around up there than in normal seasons.

Snow and sketchy roads keep out the fairweather hunters.  With the lack of snow this year, my good friend said that it seemed like everyone with a truck and a bow was rollin' around the Swakane unit.

I did not hear of any exceptional bucks from the Swakane this year.

Wow!!!!   I don't post a lot but I feel I have to give my  :twocents: on this topic.  Yeah, there were a lot of people on the roads this year.  Only because there was no snow.  As usual 95% of those people never leave the roads, thus never see a lot of deer let alone harvest nice bucks.  I personally thought this year was the best year in the past 3-4 years.  I counted 13 nice shootable bucks in just 4-5 days.  I also hiked my butt off as usual.  After all that I harvested a DOE on the last day.  Still a great season and lots of dear.

And to say that the bow hunters have ruined this area is silly.  What ruined this area is the massive kill off after the fires years ago and the fact that our community keeps taking away the game's winter feeding ground.  And to say ruined is not right either.  This is still a great place to hunt and a wonderful opportunity to get a trophy.  Maybe the complainers should get out of their trucks and walk over a hill.  They may find a few deer and not see so many people.   :dunno: just a thought

I hunted the area for the first time this year on the last Saturday of the late season. Yeah, there was no snow until the clouds blew in later in the day and dropped a little on the highest of hill tops (we got rain). My hunting partner has hunted the area a couple times in the past and said he has never seen so many cars as we did that day. Although, it was the first time he has hunted it without snow.

As for deer we spotted 3 does on a hullside and put the stock on as we headed up the draw we spotted a little 2X2 that I latter found a shed from. Between that draw and the draw next to it we spotted 30 does and 3 bucks. We came close to several but not close enough for a shot. They were just to skiddish from season long pressure and for us lack of cover to get really close.
God Bless,
Scott

I trolled through the area one day,  WOW.....never seen so many hunters due to the lack of snow...  Last year was a pretty good year, though I did not connect.  I know of one nice 4x5 killed in the late season.  It was unuasually warm this year over thanksgivin for there.  This year I didn't get to walk the area I normally do, but everyone was sitting next to the road.....so they were probably still there.

I agree the swakane sucks!   I know SLIDER knows what im talking about.  I have heard rumor that the F&G is trying to make it a draw only unit for archery.  :bdid: I dont see why they would do that when there is no deer there.

Who ever said that the bowhunters are over hunting the deer in eastern wa is not very educated (to say it nicely) Look at the harvest reports and that says it all or stand on I-90 or Hwy 2 on on the friday night before modern deer opener.

Here is a pic of a buck that i took Dec 21st, somewhere in eastern wa, or was it in Chelan Co, or was it in Grant co.  I dont remember exactly where but i think it was taken in a place where people said that there were no bucks, no snow and too many hunters.  You might be able to tell the GMU by the background;  you gotta love it when you forget the camera.  Im not complaining but this was the smaller one of the 2 I was chasing.   A 2 hr stalk and 15 does around him made it difficult.  The full story will be posted in a different thread soon.  Enjoy the pic, the hunt was the most fun ive ever had hunting.

Gate it all at the bottom and say have a nice hike and you know what, there might be alot more deer.  Same goes with all of the Entiat.  Put a gate at crum, mud, etc.  NO KEYS.  That will also decrease tribal by about 99%

I have to say part of the problem is the snowmobilers. They need to restrict them from there. This puts additional stress on the animals road closed sign or not.

the petition at hooked on toys is about the wdfw taking away gmu's for a few seasons and people are proteseting against it. i didnt sign it. (yet) but they said they are closing gmu's and changing season's. shortening them and closing special hunts.

i guess this could be a good thing for teh colockum but idk. we will see what happens.
