what about 3 vs 4 blade?
Plus and minus to each. So what benefit one has, if all blade quality and size is equal, seems to cancel out the negative. So 3 or 4 boils down to nothing more than a personal preference.
Three blade gets the nod for flight when using minimal fletching, penetration and ability to cross cut tissue at all times. Four blades get the nod in blood trails, wound channel coverage and instinctive shooters sight picture. Neither is substantial in their advantage or disadvantage assuming blade angles, cutting width and edge quality being equal.
I shoot them both. Have been successful with both. Enjoy them both. I think I like the four blade better for turkey (Less penetration, better blood trail and wound channel coverage on head shots) plus I do like the improved sight picture when shooting my traditional bows or compounds without sights. Though 90% of the time when hunting big game with compound and sights I choose a three blade design. That being said, if my choice were boiled down to the Muzzy MX-3 or the original Slick Trick...I'm going the exact opposite as outlined above. Choosing the MX-3 for turkey because of the larger cutting diameter and choosing the Slick Trick every time on big game due to the superior edge quality.
