Wyoming Deer Hunt

I have 3 points for WY deer and it looks like I may be able to draw G it in the special draw. Too many locals hunting it has really hurt the deer in that unit. WY may go to residents having to choose a deer area, that would take a lot of pressure off G. I hunted it with a friend 10 years ago awesome country. I'd like to hunt it one more time before I get too old.

How long ago did you hunt there band? Where's the pics of the bucks? My uncle and dad hunted that unit this last season. My uncle got a 2.5 year old 4 point and dad are the tag. They hunted long and hard and dad couldn't find a buck big enough to put a tag on. They talked to a game warden up there and he said almost all of the bucks shot around there are 2.5 year olds. They didn't see any big bucks or see anyone with a big buck. They need more time to grow!

It has been awhile - I believe 1999 was the last year I deer hunted there (the year I got the big one).  I can't account for how the deer population might have changed since then.  My brother got one of those young bucks, a 1.5 year old I'm sure.  Compare to the size of the big one I got.

As a reference, and to be "that guy", if you hunt wilderness you need a guide. There should be 1000's and 1000's of acres and areas you can hunt without paying for a guide. If you decide to pay for a guide (usually upwards of 4-5000) I'd suggest non-typical outfitters. They are top notch in my opinion. Another neat thing about guiding in Wyoming, they are given 100 sq miles that they are "allowed to hunt". Meaning they can't go into some other outfitters drainage to hunt. You or I could hunt all we wanted there unless it is wilderness. If you have a friend that is a resident they can fill out a paper and get a "guide's" license for a year to go with you into the wilderness. I agree with the above, about Region G being awesome. It does get a lot of pressure but there are quality deer to be had. If you are looking for once in a life time type, save up and put in for 128-1...Rut hunt near Dubois for mule deer. From what I know it is the only rut hunt in a true winter ground in the state for trophy mule deer.

The drag out wasn't bad since both of those came from within 1/4 mile of a drivable road and it was downhill.  We were separated at the time so we both dragged out our own bucks.  Mine was tougher to deal with than his due to its body size.
