Draw weight of recurve ??
« on: January 15, 2015, 04:55:30 PM »
Ok guys I'm looking for a takedown recurve for play around the place with
fluflus and some fishing :) but I'm a longer draw 29.5-30 on my compounds with the release plan to shoot recurve w/fingers so I know they're all rated at bow poundage at 28 inches how much more pounded is going to stack up for my draw approximately ?

If I remember correctly you take 1.5" off your draw length when using a release to get the draw you will be shooting at with fingers. I shoot 30" on compounds with releases and 28.5" on recurves and long bows.

So you will not pick up much extra pounds in 1/2" to a inch.

It goes anywhere from 3-5lbs per inch of draw but factory bows are rated at a rounded to the nearest 5lbs basis. So a 35lb recurve would be perfect for what your wanting. In my opinion for just flinging arrows or fishing I'd want something I can shoot all day.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

Carps pretty much nailed it. To get a solid anchor shooting with fingers you'll anchor at corner of mouth or jaw. That will be about 1 1/2 to 2" shorter than drawing to your ear with a release.

If you do draw longer, just add 3 pounds per imch beyond the marked 28" weight.

35# would be good, and pretty easy to shoot all day, but if you went to 40# you'd be at the minimum legal to hunt big game, so you'd have a back up deer/elk bow.

Of course if you buy a takedown, you can always just add new limbs....
