Colville area turkeys
« on: February 04, 2015, 08:19:55 PM »
My friend and I are from southwest Washington and going up to the colville area for turkey season, April 15 thru the 26th. Last year we hunted the refuge and did ok but we were hoping to try some new areas, this will be our second year, anybody willing to give any ideas.

You're in luck, the turkeys seem to be on a rebound I'm seeing good numbers of birds in their wintering areas, come April they'll still be near agriculture land and on south slopes picking up fresh green shoots.  I'd focus on public lands near agriculture land - find cows find turkey!

I'm expecting an early spring so I'd focus on those sun exposed south slopes on the Colville National forest.  I watched a dozen really nice Toms today, hoping they hang around until April  ;)

Head to Kettle Falls and stop in the new park service building chamber of commerce building across from Boise Cascade lumber near the middle of town, they have nice paper maps of the Colville National.

:yeah:
I been seeing some good numbers and nice toms as well. Yesterday I saw 4 jakes all strutting constantly fallowing 25-30 hens. Then seen some big boys farther off. Huge flocks in the hay fields near timber
