Riffe Lake report 1/25/15

So hit Riffe Lake sunday with a couple fishing buddys for land lock Silvers. Had a blast, and left with three limits.

Water level was lower then I expected and the wind did not quit the whole time we were on the water, it was brutal, but it did not deter us from getting our limits. This was my first time at this so it was a learning experiance for me and Dusty, Matt was the only one who has done this before, so was our teacher 


Caught them on every thing we put out. Wedding ring, rapala's, spinners, but flasher and hoochie was the key. Tipped the hook with some shrimp and 

Depth was all over, got them on top and down at 50' on the downrigger. The hardest part was the wind, trting to keep out of it

Yea???  Different from kokanee?  Got kokanee from Yale and they were all like mush.  Didn't go back.

For what I hear and have read, you have to put Kokanee on ice as soon as you get them or they will turn to mush

They are different but the same... Land locked coho instead of sockeye. Riffe lake coho are full of worms. They eat fine. But i freeze then smoke. Or can them. They are excellent. And fun to catch.

They get bigger than the Kokanee also.

Is there a part of the lake that fishes better?  I only tried there once up near Taidnapam but the wind blew me off the lake.

Out from Mossyrock Park. Seems most people fish between there and the dam. But theres lots of area out there that are productive.

I fish from the boat launch at mossyrock to the east, to the next point up the lake. Beautiful fish, and great eating.

They are spread all around the lake. The Silvers do not school like most Kokane do. I use to fish them by the dam, then realized if I go east from the Mossyrock dock, to the far side of the big bay. I troll up and down the shore line there is a radical depth drop to over 200 ft within 70 ft of shore there and the silvers seem to like it. Plus you are sheltered from the wind the hits the dam area. And you can troll the bay for nice sized smallies.
I have had luck fishing almost all of the little bays to the east as well. If you are in a smaller boat, it can get nasty once you past the first main point to the east of the bay though. There have been a couple of times on my way back from a couple miles east where the wind decided to pick up. That makes for a interesting and usually wet trip back to the dock, it can get pretty testicle in a 13 ft Smoker craft.
